Europe for climate” (Actúa para parar.

The pop troupe bounces back into action with its seventh studio album. "This is Us" follows 2007's "Unbreakable," which was the group's first new album since original member Kevin Richardson left the fold in 2006.

The 11-track album features new material that the vocal troupe collaborated on alongside songwriters and producers like T-Pain, RedOne and Claude Kelly.

The quartet--which consists of Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Brian Littrell and AJ McLean--will support "This is Us" with a major world tour. The European portion has already been announced, and North American dates should soon follow.

THE BACKSTREETBOYS: Pop With Staying Power

Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, Britan Littrell, and A.J. McLean - a.k.a. the Backstreet Boys - release their seventh album, “This Is Us,’’ today. Filled with dance floor and bubble pop confections courtesy of hitmakers like RedOne, T-Pain, and old Swedish friend Max Martin, it’s the boy band’s best effort since its boffo ’90s heyday. On the eve of the album release we chatted with Dorough by phone from New York. “Hopefully,’’ he says, “this record will finally put a stamp in people’s minds that we’re sticking around.’’

Q. “This Is Us’’ is very uptempo and contemporary. Was that the mission statement?

A. We absolutely loved the last two records, but we noticed when taking the albums to the stage it didn’t really represent what the Backstreet Boys are known for, and that’s our signature pop melodies, R&B-influenced dance stuff, our “big show’’ kind of songs. So this time we made a conscious effort - because we still feel like we can dance onstage and we’re not 50 years old yet - to make a record that has some tempo to it.

Q. It’s been 15 years since you signed your contract with Jive. Did you think you’d still be doing this?

A. It’s kind of crazy. I think we’d always hoped and dreamed and I’m still hoping and dreaming it goes on for 15-plus more years. It’s one of those things where you just never know where life is going to take you and your career. And we’ve been able to ride this roller coaster on the fast pace as well as the slower pace, and I’m just very thankful we’re the last ones still standing.

Q. What do you know now that you wish you knew then?

A. I wish I would’ve known the music industry was going to turn and go south so far in the last five years (laughs.) I think we would’ve planned a little bit differently. But I think that everything happens for a reason and it makes us who we are.

Q. So are you saying you would’ve saved more of that lunchbox money?

A. Maybe my partners would’ve saved a little bit more. (Laughs.) I’m very lucky; at the height of everything I invested, invested, invested.

Q. Stocks? Real estate?

A. I did really well in real estate.

Q. In “I Want It That Way,’’ what exactly is “it’’?

A. (Laughs.) That’s what’s called getting a bunch of Swedish pop writers to write a smash hit song but unfortunately English is not their first language. So you definitely get lost in translation. I tried to make heads or tails out of it myself as well. We actually had a rewrite on the song by [producer] Mutt Lange with Max [Martin], and the song made so much sense, but it totally lost the feeling, so we went back to the original.

THE BACKSTREETBOYS: Canceled NYC PINKTOBER Hard Rock Café Signing

The Backstreet Boys are sad to announce they have canceled today’s NYC PINKTOBER Hard Rock Café signing due to member, Brian Littrell having been diagnosed with the Swine Flu. The other 3 members, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough and AJ McLean have seen a doctor and are not showing any symptoms. As a preventive measure, the doctor has prescribed Tamiflu to the group and their touring party, who had just returned to the states from Tokyo.

This unfortunate occurrence will also result in the cancelling of the group’s CBS Early Show performance tomorrow, Tuesday October 6th. BSB was scheduled to perform their new single “Straight Through My Heart.” The intimate performance at PC Richards (downtown) has also been cancelled and rescheduled for a later date.

“We were really looking forward to spending time with our closest fans and friends in NYC and take part of PINKTOBER, an unbelievable and important program” Littrell says. “I hope we can come back soon and do everything we can to help.”

The Backstreet Boys are in New York in support of their new album THIS IS US, out tomorrow, October 6th on Jive Records. The rest of the band’s promotional schedule for this week has not been determined. Details to come.

BRIAN LITTRELL: Diagnosed With Swine Flu

The Backstreet Boys' Brian Littrell has been diagnosed with swine flu, Usmagazine.com confirms.

The other three members -- Nick Carter, Howie Dorough and AJ McLean -- have seen a doctor and are not showing any symptoms. As a preventative measure, the band's doctor has prescribed Tamiflu to the group and their touring party, who had just returned to the states from Tokyo.

Due to Littrell's illness, the Backstreet Boys cancelled their scheduled Monday appearance at the Pinktober Hard Rock Cafe signing in New York City. They will also cancel their performance on CBS' Early Show Tuesday morning. (The rest of their schedule this week has not yet been determined.)

"We were really looking forward to spending time with our closest fans and friends in NYC and take part of Pinktober, an unbelievable and important program" Littrell, 34, said in a statement to Us. "I hope we can come back soon and do everything we can to help."

The news comes one day before the release of their new album, This Is Us, which goes on sale Tuesday.

BRIAN LITTRELL: Diagnosed With Swine Flu

The Backstreet Boys were forced to cancel a planned meet-and-greet in New York on Monday (October 5) after member Brian Littrell was diagnosed with swine flu. According to a statement released by the group's spokesperson, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough and AJ McLean, as well as the band's traveling entourage, have all met with a doctor and are not currently showing any symptoms of the highly contagious flu, known as H1N1.

As a preventative measure, the doctor prescribed the drug Tamiflu to the group and their touring party, all of whom just returned from Tokyo. As a result of the diagnosis, the BSB have also been forced to cancel a planned performance for Tuesday on CBS' "Early Show." They were scheduled to perform their new single, "Straight Through My Heart," from their This Is Us album, due Tuesday. An intimate fan-appreciation performance at PC Richard & Son Theater in New York scheduled for Tuesday night has also been postponed.

It was unclear at press time how Littrell's diagnosis would impact the rest of the band's promotional schedule for this week. In 1998, Littrell, 34, underwent open-heart surgery to correct a lifelong heart murmur.

According to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, H1N1 is a highly contagious seasonal variation of the flu spread from person to person through coughing, sneezing or by touching a surface someone with the virus has come into contact with and then touching the mouth or nose. Symptoms of the disease include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. While most people who contract the flu will suffer the symptoms and recover with no lasting effects, the virus has the potential to be lethal for people over 65 and children under the age of 5, as well as pregnant women and those with chronic medical conditions, including heart disease.

Littrell is not the first pop singer to fall victim to H1N1. Among those who've reportedly contracted it are Kasabian singer Tom Meighan, Tulisa Contostavlos of the British band N-Dubz and singer/songwriter Jens Lekman. E! Online reported Monday that production on the show "Bones" had been shut down due to an H1N1 scare.

The group was scheduled to appear at New York's Hard Rock Café on Monday for the NYC PINKTOBER event. The Backstreet Boys, who are due to release their seventh album, This Is Us, on Tuesday, were also scheduled to perform their new single "Straight Through My Heart" on CBS's The Early Show that same day.
